2023 TB Day: Zamfara govt expands TB Diagnosis, Treatment centres to 442

The Zamfara state government in collaboration with its partners have intensified efforts to ensure Universal Health Coverage of Tuberculosis services, saying TB treatment centers has been expanded to 442 centres.

Speaking during the event to mark world TB Day held at the weekend in Gusau, the commissioner for health Aliyu Abubakar, represented by permanent Secretary Pharmacist Aliyu Maikiyo said said World TB Day is a day set to sensitize and educate the public about the Tuberculosis and its impact around the world and efforts by the governments, donors and partners to end the global TB epidemic. 

The theme for this year’s conference is “YES WE CAN END TB.

He said “During the year 2022 the Zamfara government and its partners have been able to expand its TB Treatment Centres from 244 to 442 including all the Private health facilities in the state.

“Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the world’s deadliest infectious diseases and is caused by the bacterium (Mycobacterium tuberculosis) that most often affects the lungs. 

“Zamfara State TB and Leprosy Control Programme, along with our partners and colleagues around the world share successes in TB prevention and control and raise awareness of the challenges that hinder progress toward the elimination of this devastating disease”.

According to him, this year world TB day is critical with opportunities to raise visibility and political commitment at the 2023 UN high level meeting on TB .
