The Federal Government has bestowed a grand honor upon D’Tigress, Nigeria’s female basketball team, by conferring upon them the prestigious Order of the Niger (OON) national honours.
This followed their outstanding achievement in winning their fifth consecutive AfroBasketWomen title.
Each member of the team received a reward of $100,000 and a flat, while the technical team, led by Coach Rena Makama, was awarded $50,000 each.
The event took place at a grand reception in Abuja, where President Bola Tinubu, represented by his wife Senator Remi Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, warmly welcomed the team.
Recall, last week President Tinubu conferred similar honours and gifts on the Super Falcons for winning Nigeria’s 10th title of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco.
Further recall, in the final on Sunday, Nigeria edged out Mali 78-64 in a tense showdown, displaying resilience and composure to claim their seventh AfroBasket title.
