HILWA canvasses Girl Child Education in the North

The National President of High Level Women Advocates (HILWA), Mrs Azuka Menkiti has said the enrolment of girl child into public schools is encouraging in the North, saying though thousands are still out of school.


Menkiti spoke at the Weekend in Gusau during the national appreciation and presentation of award to stakeholders in the campaign on massive enrolment of girl child education in the north.


According to the national president, HILWA as an NGO, is doing everything possible to stop parents from sending their children on street hawking.


She maintained that HILWA  in collaboration with UNICEF and  Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board has successfully campaigned for increase girl child enrollment and better access.


Menkiti added that the Educational sector, especially the model initiatives on girl child component of education introduced by Governor Bello Mohammed was impressive.


“Our  organisation was impressed with the level of increased girl child enrolment into public schools system, it enhance chances of having access to quality education”.


Also speaking, chairman zamfara state Universal Basic Education Board,  Abubakar Aliyu Maradun said the board was up and doing in creating an enabling environment for teaching and learning so as to encourage enrollment of out of school children.


During the occasion Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Saad Abubakar, Emir of Argungu Alhaji Muhammad Mera, Emir Anka Alhaji Attahiru Ahmed and former Emir of Kano Sanusi Lamido Sanusi were presented with awards.


Others who received similar awards include wife of former Bauchi State governor Hadiza Mohammed Abubakar, wife of Sokoto State governor Mariya Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and wife of Kebbi state governor, Dr Zainab Shinkafi among others.
