Honourable Uchena Harrison Okonkwo has thrown his hat into the race for the ticket of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), to represent Idemili North /Idemili south federal constituency of Anambra state at the House of Representatives in 2023.

Okonkwo said the need for his representation followed the yearning of the youths, especially a group called Youths Expression for Service, (YES).

Speaking with newsmen at the APGA headquarters Tuesday in Abuja, he said the constituency need a fresh representation for the constituents to experience something new.

“The fact can speak for itself, everybody is free to go and do their research in terms of what the current lawmaker has done and what he has not done. Am not here to bite on his form of leadership, but I believe that at a certain point, he has been there for quite a while and at certain point, it is good for us to experience something new, something fresh”.

According to Okonkwo, the core of his legislative interest would be to carve out laws that would favour everybody including those within his constituency.

“Basically when you are at the federal House of Representatives, you are a legislator, you have to be able to carve out according to the laws and acts of the federal republic of Nigeria. You carve out laws that would favour everybody including those within your constituency”.

“One of my priority would be the youths, to get a front role experience into politics and the women too would be heard”.

On what motivated him to seek for the ticket of the party to represent Idemili North/Idemili south he said. “one of my motivation is that of the youth, those that are yearning for good representation and ideal leadership. My constituency, Idemili North and South has been triggered by quite unfortunate leadership in the past. But we want to have an impact, create change and have better representation at the federal level and that formed the reason why am seeking for representation.

“When it come to the federal House of Representatives, you are not just representing your constituency, but you are also representing the interest of national politics and national delegation at large, especially the interest of Nigerians. For us, Nigerians need to be able to feel and experience someone that can be able to bring vision, kind-hearted and firm when it come to standing on security, empowerment, women equality, child Justice, social economy and the business economy at large.

“I am very much excited to have this opportunity to vie for this position” he said.

Commenting on the role of his father in his quest for political office, “over the time my father has been able to get into political terrain very early and for me, to say rather than am riding on my father, I will say am following his foot steps by getting it early as well.

“This is not the first time am contesting, I contested under the platform of Social Democratic Party (SDP) in 2019, I did well because I came third in the race; but nonetheless we are at this position right now, where am contesting under a great party the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

“I believe this time around that we are going to do a better job; and God help us we can be able to clinch it.

“And of course whatever assistance my father would make, because he is a man of the people and a man for good governance. If am not a good son, he would not support my candidacy, but he has seen am a good candidate”.
