Insecurity: Plateau Council Chair solicits support for Vigilante Group

The Executive Chairman, Langtang North Local Government Council, Hon Ubandoma J. Laven has urged the Federal Government to support the Vigilante Group of Nigeria to enable them police various communities in the country effectively.


Hon. Laven disclosed this on Saturday during his appointment and decoration as State Patron of Vigilante Group of Nigeria, held at the Langtang Local Government Secretariat.

He noted that the vigilante group have laid their lives for the safety of rural communities without any form of inducement and incentives given to them.


“It is no longer news that the capacity of the police in Nigeria today cannot curtail the rising trend of violence and crime in the society, hence the need for communal policing which the vigilante fits into”

He said peace, security and well-being of Nigeria citizens remains paramount and  for development.


He emphasised the need for Nigeria government from local, state and federal levels to support the vigilante group of Nigeria by training and empowering them to support the fight against crimes such as arm robbery, banditry and kidnapping.


Hon. Laven solicited the support of the federal government to grant the vigilante group the  permission to bear light weapons to enable them carry out their work effectively.


“I make bold to say that the vigilante are more closer to communities and if properly engaged, they can contribute in addressing the overwhelming security challenges bedeviling the nation especially at the grassroots through intelligence gathering and sharing to the appropriate authorities

“I pledge my continued support to your organization and charge you to enroll only men of integrity into your outfit, to ensure law and order in our communities”.

He assured the people of Plateau state of his full support and commitment to the vigilante group so as to safe communities from bandits, armed robbers and kidnappers.


Sadiq Abubbakar, Plateau State Admin Commander, Vigilante Group of Nigeria, said Hon Laven has being supporting the vigilante group.

Rev. Joel Bako, CAN Chairman, Southern Zone, Plateau state and Langtang North appreciated the vigilante group for decorating Hon Laven as state patron, saying the church is ready to aligned with him for peace to return to the land.


Comrade Naankin Mathew, the youth leader also applauded Hon Laven.
