Insecurity: Red Cross distributes Cash assistance to 800 Vulnerable persons in Zamfara

The Nigerian Red Cross Society has distributed cash assistance to 800 persons mostly affected by insecurity in Zamfara State.

The assistance was to support the victims of banditry activities in three local government areas of Zamfara that includes Gusau, Maru and Bakura Local government.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony on Sunday in Gusau, the National Secretary, Red Cross Society of Nigeria represented by the Zamfara State secretary, Comrade Ibrahim Bello Garba said the cash assistance was to alleviate food insecurity for victims of armed banditry in the State. 

According to him, many of the victims were denied farming in their respective communities as a result of armed bandits attacked. “It’s part of our Humanitarian assistance to provide support for the victims to buy food”.

“Many of the victims were devastated, no jobs, no food and farming which is their source of livelihood is denied, they are unable to access their farmlands to produce what they would eat as a result of the insecurity”. 

He explained that 700 beneficiaries that includes aged persons, Internally Displaced Persons (IDP’s), widows and orphans received N30,500 each.

Others beneficiaries were 100 pregnant and nursing mothers, who also received  N10,000 each and would be receiving same amount for a period of ten months.

He called on the beneficiaries to make best use of the assistance to improve their livehood.

It would be recall that the Nigerian Red Cross society had earlier distributed Cash assistance to the poor and most vulnerable people in the state.
