Worried by delay in payment of allowances and other entitlements due to the Nigeria Senior female team, the Super Falcons, the House of Representatives Ad hoc Committee is investigating the management of the Nigeria Football Federation NFF.
Recall, the Super Falcons did not lose any match at the group stages at the just concluded FIFA women’s world cup co hosted by Australia and New Zealand. The falcons lost at the round of 16 to England.
Indeed, the committee on Thursday waded into dispute between the Super Falcons and Nigeria Football Federation and grilled the management of NFF over the dispute.
Chairperson of the Committee, Hon. Blessing Onuh who spoke at an investigative hearing expressed concern over the delay in payment of allowances and other entitlements of the Super Falcons.
Similarly, the committee also expressed dismay over the accumulated allowances of local coaches over time.
The committee bemoaned that while NFF is owing local coaches allowances, their foreign counterparts were fully paid.
The President of NFF, Ibrahim Gusau did not provide any specific details why they paid foreign coaches allowances but unable to pay the salary and allowance of the local coaches.
Also speaking, the NFF Secretary General, Muhammad Sanusi said his salary and allowance were being paid by FIFA, saying he was not affected in the delay of the payment of salary and allowance of players and workers.
On why the NFF delayed the payment of allowances of Super Falcons, Gusau said part of their allowances has been paid last week.
According him, the Naira component of their allowances has been paid but the dollar component is yet to be paid. He said it takes a long time to process the dollar component.
Hon. Onuh explained that the investigation will still continue, however called for sincere commitment to the development sports in Nigeria.
Meanwhile, the committee adjourned sitting till Wednesday next week.
