2023: Umar Namadi wins APC Governorship ticket in Jigawa

The Deputy Governor of Jigawa state, Alhaji Umar Namadi has been declared gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Jigawa state.


This followed his emergence as the winner of the party’s primary election held Thursday night at the Aminu Kano Triangle.

Namadi scored 1,220 votes to defeat  eight other contestants that include a former Deputy Governor and the current Senator representing Jigawa north east Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia. 


The electoral officer, Dr Kabir Usman said Senator Sabo Muhammad Nakudu scored 106 votes, Senator Ibrahim Hassan 58 votes, Arc. Aminu Kano 16, Faruku Adamu, 13 and Mal Sani Hussaini Garungabas 5 votes.


He stated that the former deputy governor, Alhaji Ahmad Mahmud Gumel, Special Adviser to the president on infrastructure, Mr Ahmed Rufa’i Zakaria and Alhaji Abba Muktari the son of late AVM Muktari Muhammed all scored zero.

Speaking shortly after he was decleared winner, the Deputy Governor and APC gubernatorial candidate appealed to other contestants to support him and ensure the party victory in the general election.

The APC governorship candidate was the commissioner of finance from 2015 to 2019 where he was picked as Deputy governor by governor Alhaji Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar in 2019 to date.
