Elder statesman, human rights activist and former liaison officer to former President Shehu Shagari, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai has refuted report that purportedly associated him with a new political group, ‘The League of Northern Democrats’.
A statement on Wednesday, personally signed by him and made available to SINL Nigeria Online urged the general public to disregard the report by Punch Online Media, saying I’m not part of the Organizers nor the Organization.
The statement reads in full:
“Today 21st, August 2024 my attention has been drawn to a Punch Newspaper online report where my name was mentioned as part of a New Political group named “The League of Northern Democrats’..
“I have been receiving calls and messages by well meaning Nigerians about my membership of this group to which I am not a member.
“I did not intend to respond to this publication, but it became imperative as the calls and messages kept on pouring in and for the Nigerian Populace to get informed about that publication.
“To set the records straight, I urge the general public to disregard such report by Punch Online Media as I’m not apart of the Organizers nor the Organization”.
