The Nigerian Navy has said it will begin the trial of its personnel and some civilians allegedly involved in crude oil theft within the country’s territorial waters on Friday.
The Information Officer, Western Naval Command, Commander Thomas Otuji, in a statement issued on Thursday, said the trial of those arrested would begin as from 9 am on Friday.
The electronic statement reads: “The Nigerian Navy in its effort to sanitize the maritime environment and to get rid of any form of economic saboteurs in and out of the Service will begin a Court Marshall…”
The trial will take place at WNC Officers Mess, Naval Base Apapa, Lagos State, according to the statement.
It said the trial is part of the Nigerian Navy’s effort at ridding the country’s waters of sea robbers and oil thieves.
