Repentants armed bandits and a group, Yansakai in Zamfara State have surrendered 203 sophisticated firearms and 887 Dane guns in the State.
The repentant bandits also facilitated the release of 53 kidnapped persons in 6 villages of Bungudu local government area of the State.
Briefing newsmen Wednesday evening, the state commissioner for security and home affairs Abubakar Mohammed Dauran said the repentant bandits in collaboration with police rescued the kidnapped victims without paying any ransom.
According to Dauran, the victims were kidnapped three days ago at different villages of Bungudu local government area.
“It is indeed with enormous joy and happiness, I wish to Express sincere gratitude to Almighty Allah to witness yet another success achieved by the Zamfara State government under the leadership of Governor Bello Mohammed Mattawale in rescuing about 53 persons of Dangamji,Yarkatsina, Doka, Kwaftari, Fandahaki and maje villages in Bingi north District of Bungudu Emirate council”.
He said all the 53 rescued persons were in Good condition and no ransom was paid for their release.
“The State government in collaboration with commissioner of police and repented armed bandits secured the kidnapped victims”.
He maintained that the State government has been making efforts to contain the security inferno ranging many spots across the State with different approach applied.
“Zamfara State government and all security stakeholders have unanimously agreed with peace and reconciliation accord initiated by Governor Bello Matawalle”.
Dauran disclosed that, the State government was determined to neutralize any erring individual or group of individuals who attempt to breach the law and order.
The commissioner further revealed that the giants initiative of common approach to address insecurity in the State has yielded positive results.
“Voluntarily repentants bandits and Yansakai had surrendered about 203 sophisticated firearms, 2566 live ammunitions, 64 magazines and 2 handcuffs as well as 887 locally fabricated dane guns”.
