A Group, under the umbrella of Tangale Community Development Association (TCDA) and Tangale Elders have vowed to contest the imposition of Mallam Danladi Sanusi Maishanu as the Mai Tangale by Gombe State Governor, Alh. Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya up to the Supreme Court.
Member Board of Trustees, Tangale Community Development Association (TCDA), Dr. Daniel G. Maddo disclosed this during a press conference in Jos.
He urged Governor Yahaya to dethroned Mallam Danladi Sanusi Maishanu and replaced him with Dr. Musa Idris Maiyamba who was duly elected by the kingmakers in the interest of peace and unity of the state.
“The Tangale people are peace loving and have decided to approach the Judiciary in resolving the issues surrounding Mia Tangale stool.
The Judiciary being the last hope of the common man we hope it will rectify this great injustice done to Tangale people.
“We will pursue this matter from the High Court to the Supreme Court until we secure Justice to our people. We believe Maishanu migrated into our community and therefore, we are doubting his legibility as a Tangale person and more so, he was not duly elected by the kingmakers.”
Dr. Maddo cried out over incessant harassment and arrest of Tangale people by the security under the instructions of the Governor including pregnant women and the aged persons who voiced out the truth.
He caution that the utterances of Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya on the matter is capable of inciting other groups against the Tangale nation and expressed fear that the situation might lead to genocide.
“We want Mallam Danladi Sanusi Maishanu to stop parading himself as the Mai Tangale in the interest of peace, tranquility and good governance. In line with the Gombe State Chieftaincy law and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, Dr. Musa Idris Maiyamba is the duly elected and recognized 16th Mai Tangale.”
He lamented that the controversial appointment of Mallam Danladi Sanusi Maishanu as the purported Mai Tangale by Gombe State Governor, Mohammadu Yahaya was in flagrant violation of the newly enacted Chieftaincy law and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Dr. Maddo urged Gombe State Government to lift the longest curfew in Nigeria imposed on the Tangale people in Biliri Local Government since February, 2021.
“We urge the Governor to always use legitimate and lawful security agencies to maintain law and order within Gombe State and avoid using “Yan Kalare”, hunters and other illegal vigilante group to harras and intimidate innocent and peace loving people of Tangale.”
He noted that the spontaneous peaceful protest by Tangale women was as a result of the Governor’s action and inactions with regards to the Mai Tangale stool.
He praised the kingmakers who resisted the financial inducement by the Governor and voted for Dr. Musa Idris Maiyamba inline with the wishes and custom of the Tangale people.
