The Executive Secretary, Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Rev. Yakubu Pam has said the Commission established a Peace Desk to work towards resolving the incessant communal clashes, herdsmen/farmers clashses and resolving differences among Nigerians for peace and unity of the country.
Rev. Pam disclosed this on Thursday during an interview with Journalists, saying what the Nigerians need at the moment is the sincerity of heart, mutual understanding and tolerance among each other.
“I am glad that the President added peace as a new component to mymajor role as the Executive Secretary of NCPC. I understand it hasn’t been soin the previous administrations.
“Peace as you well know is a necessary component of any keydevelopment globally. I had before now been advocating for a peaceful societywhereas as clergy I have preached and tried to live it, over three decades.”
Pam explained that the NCPC Peace Desk has undertaken rigorous peace interventions across states and regions of Nigeria where violence has erupted in the past that leads to lost of lives and property, particularly the EndSARS protest.
“Peace intervention is what gladden my heart since I resume office, and I must appreciate Mr President who gave me the go ahead to carry on with the peace mission.
“We have done interventions in various states and regions of this country. We have started with Southern Kaduna where a three day peace summit took place, we have gone to Taraba, Benue and Plateau.
“Our joy is that we laid a strong foundation of peace in those places and so many people are building on the foundation. We have also gone to Lagos, we were the instrument in the hands of God to make sure that we quench down the destruction that was as a result of EndSARS.
“We brought together all Nigerians youths together under the inter-faith and I am happy that they obey and respected my office and today we have peace in Southern Nigeria, particularly Lagos and other parts of the North.”
Rev. Pam who acknowledged the enormous security challenges facing the country, said the Commission has alot of peace interventions to carry out in different parts of the country for peace and unity of the country.
He noted that the COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the world, stressing that funding has been one of the greatest predicament of the Commission in realizing its mandate of leading Nigerians to pilgrimage to the Holy Land of Israel.
“The major challenge that we have now is the COVID-19 pandemic that is all over the world, as you can see, we are supposed to have two or three operations already going to Israel but couldn’t work.”
Pam appreciated Directors, Management and Staff of the Commission for their tireless support and commitment towards achieving the mandate and vision of the Commission.
