The Northwest Zonal Caretaker Secretary of the All progressive Congress (APC), Hon. Tukur Abdulkadir has urged APC members in Zamfara State who registered and received the party membership card in the past to disregard any call for revalidation by former governor Ahmed Sani Yarima.
Indeed, Abdulkadir emphasised that their membership cards is still genuine and need no revalidation.
Addressing newsmen at the APC factional secretariat in Gusau, the State capital, on Tuesday, Abdulkadir said he was in the State to clear the air over confusion created by some party members in the State.
He said “I call on all those who have already revalidated their membership cards to disregard Senator Yarima’s claims.
“Your membership cards is genuine”.
Meanwhile, the Caretaker committee chairman of APC in Zamfara State in the camp of former Governor Abdulaziz Yari, Alhaji Lawal Kaura during a press conference at the party’s Secretariat in Gusau on Tuesday also said, “Yarima’s statement is a violation of APC constitution”.
“I want to draw the attention of the public, especially our party members of some misguided utterances of Senator Yarima as widely reported in the media.
“Yarima claimed that, henceforth, anybody who has not renewed his register with the new decampees will not be considered as APC member and can neither vote nor be voted for in any of the party congresses and subsequent elections.
“Let me clearly tell him (Yarima) that, APC in Zamfara has already registered about 770,000 members and that register is still mentioned by each of the 147 wards in accordance with provisions of our party’s constitution article 9.4.
“Going by article 9.5, of the APC constitution, no membership of the party can be terminated except by death, resignation, expulsion or procurement of membership card of another political party, accepting political appointment of opposition party or opposition government” Kaura said.
He added that the claim by Yarima invalidating membership of 770,000 APC members in the state is not only unfounded but an attempt to disorganize, disunite, ridicule the party and deceive the public.
