The Jigawa state Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, ( NUT) has decried dearth of teachers in the state primary and post primary Schools.
The dearth followed retirement of over seven thousand teachers in the last eleven years without replacements, the state Chairman of NUT, Comrade Abdulkadir Yunusa has said.
Yunusa spoke on Tuesday on the occasion of Teachers Day at the union Secretariat in Dutse.
“Recruitment of one thousand, nine hundred and fifty three teachers in both basic and post basic schools in Jigawa state by the state government is grossly inadequate to cater for our over 9,000 post primary schools” he said.
He explained that statistics has revealed that “many of our schools are without teachers or without qualify teachers. Why won’t us be backward educationally, he quaried.
“Despite state govt commitment in supporting educational sector, we will like to draw the attention of government on the issues of shortage of man power development”.
He called on teachers to uphold the Spirit of training and re- training in updating their certification in comformity with the stipulated guideline on teacher’s registration council.
He commended Governor Badaru’s initiatives in promoting 167 teachers on Grade level 15 to the rank of Director, establishment of five Science Day Secondary Schools and ninety six senior day secondary schools among others.
