The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Jos chapter has put the records straight on the alleged Examination Misconduct involving Dr. Benedicta Daudu, a former lecturer with the Faculty of Law, University of Jos.
The Union noted that the University’s Senate Committee on Examination misconduct had suspended Dr. Daudu after she appeared before the committee and accepted to have committed the alleged misconduct.
The Branch Chairperson of ASUU, Dr Lazarus L. Maigoro in a press statement in Jos noted that Dr. Daudu who is currently a lecturer with Taraba State University, Jalingo was suspended from the University of Jos as student in 2016 for examination misconduct.
The statement reads: “The attention of our union, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Jos chapter has been drawn to some newspaper publications on the Examination misconduct scandal concerning Dr Benedicta Daudu, a former staff of the Faculty of Law, University of Jos who is now a lecturer with Taraba State University, Jalingo.
“As a union that believes in the principles of academic integrity towards attaining high academic standards even where its members are involved and the University in general, we want to state and inform the public in very clear terms that the Newspaper publications are false and a misrepresentation of the issues in relation to the examination misconduct saga concerning Dr Benedicta Daudu.
“Our position is based on the fact that Dr Benedicta Daudu appeared before the University Senate committee on Examination misconduct and accepted committing the misconduct.
“Consequently, on the 13th July, 2016, the registrar of the University who is the secretary to senate conveyed to Dr Benedicta Daudu via a memo, senate decision suspending her as a student from the University of Jos for one academic session.”
Dr. Maigoro explained that paragraph three of the memo that suspended her reads, “Senate at its 2nd regular meeting for the 2015/2016 Academic Session held on June 30th, 2016, considered the reports of its committee as it affects you and approved that you be suspended for two semesters with effect from the begining of the first semester, 2015/2016 Academic Session.”
He noted further that the Senate also approved the cancellation of her MRPP 513 examination result in line with item 3(a) of the Reviewed Examination Regulations and Guidelines.
“You are accordingly, suspended from the University with immediate effect, and your MRPP 513 examination result is hereby cancelled”.
He said examination misconduct whether it is a lecturer or a student that is involved is a serious breach of examination ethics that cannot go unpunished once the person is caught.
“Therefore, to say that the University of Jos cleared her of examination misconduct as captured in the publications is actually not true and as major stakeholders in the University of Jos, our union felt obliged to present the true position hence this is a very critical issue that affects the integrity of our members, our union as well as the University at large.” he stated.
