No fewer than1000 households in 10 local government areas of Jigawa state mostly affected by Cholera during the last rainy season on Monday benefited from contributions, non-food-items from Save the Children International.
The non Governmental organization has supported the 10 Local Government Areas with clinical interventions, such as training of health workers and supply of medical consumables and community- based interventions.
Save the Children International trained community workers, distributed non-food items to affected families, sensitized community members about cholera prevention, water, hygiene and sanitation (WASH) in Kangere village of Birninkudu LGA.
Among items given out to the victims of Cholera in Kangare village as interventions include disinfectants, water purification, environmental sanitation, Jericans and Rubber basins.
The training of community structures in the 10 LGAs was targeted at Ward Development Committee (WDC) members, Community Key Informants (CKIs), Jakada Lafiya, WASHCOM, as well as Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) in the selected areas.
However, a total of 150 persons were trained across 30 communities in 10 LGAs in the state.
The training was facilitated by LGAs cholera response team, who were earlier on trained by Save the Children in Kano.
Recall, 30 health workers were trained by Save the Children International on cholera management and response from the 10 selected LGAs, who were supported to conduct step down training to more health workers in their LGAs.
