Ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primaries slated for January 27th, there are strong indications that Governor of Ekiti state, Kayode Fayemi may have forced the Gov. Mai Mala Buni led caretaker committee to swallow a bitter pill.
Specifically, the Gov. Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker Committee may have adopted the list of 7-man committtee submitted by Governor Fayemi to conduct the APC governorship primaries, in a bid to impose his annointed candidate.
A source close to the Government House in Ekiti State, authoritatively mentioned the name of the Election Panel Chairman as Governor Mohammed Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State while the Secretary would be one Rt. Hon. Victor Olabongon.
Indeed, Governor Fayemi was said to have submitted the name of Gov. Badaru in replacement of Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nassarawa, earlier recommended by Otunba Niyi Adebayo, the Hon. Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, who was said to have served on the board of Dangote Group with Gov. Sule in the past.
Other members of the committee include Kafilat Ogbara, Julius Ogunro, Tayo Adewokun and Hon. Lanre Isa.
Continuing, the source added that the wife of Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, was quoted as saying nothing could happen in APC without them, while assuring women leaders who met her that “Gov. Badaru and his Committee members had been given clear instructions to return Biodun Oyebanji, the former Secretary to the State Government”.
Oyebanji is believed to be the annointed candidate of the Fayemis and Otunba Niyi Adebayo.
Following the rumour of Gov. Badaru mission filtered out of Ekiti Govt House, it has reportedly being generating tension in the state, and talks among Stateholders are already going on as to what steps to take if eventually the committee is announced as allegedly composed.
Consequently, our correspondent gathered that stakeholders are said to be astonished if President Muhammadu Buhari and other national leaders of APC, would allow the party to die in Ekiti; following the alleged political manipulation of the governor to impose his annointed candidate.
