The Acting General Manager/Chief Executive of Jos Wildlife Park, Mrs Salome Audu Bidda has called on Plateau people to work towards the restoration and protection of animals at the park.
She cautioned citizens against the destruction and damages being meted on the park as a result of illegal mining, grazing and deforestation.
Mrs Audu disclosed this on Thursday during the stakeholders park tour at the Jos Wildlife Park to mark the 2022 Wildlife Park celebration, held at the Park in Jos, Plateau State.
“Jos wildlife park is the green belt of plateau state, its well cherished, and it’s among the three major green belt within the city and we want to recover all the Flora and fauna that has been destroyed in the Jos Wildlife Park.
“The chain links, bars, wires and fences that were built-in there have been destroyed by several Individuals, illegal mining, illegal grazing deforestation, steps at the highest building built to view the city have been cut down”.
She appealed to every individual to desist from destroying plants and vegetations especially the youths, but instead form themselves into groups in order to embark on planting more trees.
“God has blessed us with this green belt that absorb our carbon monoxide and emit oxygen for our health benefits.
“Stakeholders have gone round and have accessed the level of destruction and damages done to this green belt”.
She assured of taking advise from stakeholders in order to preserve and restore the past glory of our leaders, thereby encouraging individuals to help in the afforestation process.
The Assistant General Manager Jos Wildlife Park, Mr. Damar Victor said the Jos Wildlife Park have become a Savannah where individuals have bastardized the trees as if it’s someone’s farmland that is ready for tolling.
“We need to work very hard to bring back the past glory of this state by mounting securities, embark on afforestation so as to restore the place”.
The Chairman Planning Committee World Wildlife Day for Jos Wildlife Park, Dr. Longtong Tursnak said all the safari roads should be open and connected for people to drive in and enjoy the place.
“Security check point should be raised up for the rangers and should be well equip for them to do their work effectively”.
