A frontline Gubernatorial Aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang has emerged the most preferred governorship aspirant from Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau Central.
This followed a pre-primary election initiated by Mangu PDP Elders’ Forum.
The Forum led by Elders Gabriel Din andDavid Dandaura Daspan of Mwaghavul and Pyem Chiefdoms respectively approved the pre-primary election in order to whittle down the huge number of aspirants vying for the governorship election. Five aspirant willingly accepted the decision of the Elders to participate.
It was gathered that Caleb Mutfwang polled a total of 33 votes, Mr. Alex Ladan, 23; Chief Satu Jatau 22, Chief Jerry Gushop 22, and Hon. Aminu Jonathan got 10 votes out of the 110 accredited voters who participated in the exercise.
SINL Nigeria gathered that some of the aspirants opted out of the pre-primary election and preferred to exercise their individual constitutional rights during the party’s primaries in a couple of weeks to come.
Keen observers have opined that the outcome of the exercise has given the Local Government Area which is highly positioned in Plateau Central to produce the next governor, a roadmap toward the PDP primary election.
An elder who spoke after the exercise called on all aspirants who participated to close rank with the leading aspirant to enable the council area produce the next governor.
“Mangu LGA is highly favoured to produce the PDP Governorship candidate for Plateau State, given its voting strength of over 100,000 registered voters. Mangu LGA can deliver bulk votes if well mobilised. If the candidate excites the electorate, Mangu will witness a large voter turn out that can translate into bringing out an impressive margin of victory for PDP during the general election in 2023.”
Another elder admonished the PDP Elders’ from the area to swing into action and encourage those who lost out to work together with the leading aspirant, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang to enable them go into the primaries with their strength.
