Jigawa Assembly suspends council chair, to probe eight others

Jigawa State House of Assembly on Tuesday suspended council chairman of Yankwashi local government area of the state.

It also set up a committee to investigate eight other local government chairmen over alleged misappropriation of funds and abuse of office.

This was made known by the Chairman House committee on Information, representing Kafin Hausa state constituency, Honourable  Muhammad Na’im Adamu.


He however revealed that the House during its sitting suspended indefinitely chairman of Yankwashi local government for alleged mischief and spreading false information against the state Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Honourable Aminu Ahmed.

He said, the house received a letter of complaint from the APC state chairman against the Yankwashi local government chairman, who accused the party chairman of extorting money to favour some party aspirants.


He also explained that the House has received series of complaints and allegations of financial misappropriation against eight local government councils’ chairmen.


He said to ensure fair hearing, the house has set up a special committee to investigate the eight chairmen.


Honourable Na’im revealed that the affected local government council include Gwaram, Kafinhausa, Guri, Miga, Birninkudu, Birniwa and Babura respectively.


Reacting to the alleged financial misappropriation, one of the council chairmen who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the allegation as political witch hunting.
