The minister of humanitarian affairs, disaster management and social development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq on Thursday assured the Senate Ad-hoc committtee on uneven disbursement of loans, grants and interventions of maximum cooperation of the ministry.
Umar Farouq emphasised that her ministry will support the committee to achieve its set objective.
The minister spoke at a two-day interactive session of the ad-hoc committtee with development banks and ministries held in Abuja.
Umar Farouq, represented by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo pledged commitment of the ministry to provide necessary documents that will ease the assignment of the committtee.
“We do not underrate the documents you seek for from the ministry, I want to congratulate this Ad-hoc Committtee on the task ahead
“The ministry of humanitarian affairs will support this committtee to succeed”.
Briefing journalists shortly after the session, chairman of the committee, Senator Sani Musa (Niger East, APC) said the committee is aware of level of insecurity in the country, saying “the best we can do is to balance interventions in the country”.
“You are aware the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed inflation level of the country and revealed that 133 million Nigerians are living below poverty level” he said.
Senator Musa however urged the minister, Umar Farouq to appear before the committtee on Thursday next week with necessary documents to facilitate the work of the committee.
It would be recalled that the committtee had earlier met the Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN) and Bank of Agriculture (BOA) on Wednesday.
