Following election by a factional group of the All Farmers Association (AFAN) in Jigawa state and inauguration of its executive, a splinter group has threatened court action.
Indeed the splinter group has described the exercise as null and void.
Reacting to the purported AFAN’s election, Alhaji Idris Ya’u Mai-angwawho claimed to be the ligitimate state chairman of the Association and recognized by the national body and the state government as well as security agencies said the election was exercise in futility.
Maiangwa, who stated this while briefing reporters on Wednesday in state capital Dutse, said the so-called election held on Monday at 3Star Hotel Dutse was illegitimate.
“We are the legitimate leaders, we were elected on May 19, 2019, given the Certificate of return by the national officials, before the Special Assistant to Governor Badaru, Alhaji Ibrahim Koimawa and supervised by the state Commissioner of Police”, he stressed.
He also claimed that the recent elected state factional chairman, Alhaji Auwal Garba Ibrahim is not a legitimate member of AFAN.
According to him, Alhaji Faruq Mudi who is in acting capacity as the national President of AFAN has no right to dissolve legitimate elected leaders in Jigawa state.
“We have constitution that is guiding us, it states that all elected leaders serve for five years. So our tenure has not expired and we are still the leaders in the state”, Maiangwa explained.
But the newly elected state chairman of AFAN, Alhaji Auwalu Garba Ibrahim has said the election held recently was authentic and was legitimate, arguing that it was supervised by all security agents.
He stressed that the problem with Maiangwa faction is that, they reportedly don’t respect the rule of law, because court has already dissolved them as leaders in the state.
He said the Maiangwa’s faction tenure has since expired, saying the Association is not political in nature.
He challenged Maiangwa to tender any evidence against him to prove his claims that he (Ibrahim) is not a legitimate member of AFAN.
