The Zamfara state Anti-thuggery committee has arrested about 35 suspected political thugs, repelled coordinated attack on office accommodation in the state.
Parading the suspects on Tuesday in Gusau, the chairman Anti-thuggery, drug abuse and other related crimes, Bello Bakyasuwa said the thugs were arrested during the PDP rally on Monday in the state.
According to him, the committee has also apprehended a political thug who set ablaze a government vehicle on Tuesday in Gusau, the state capital.
“It was a hectic day on monday, we arrested some alleged PDP thugs when they came during PDP rally with the motive to vandalise properties in the state”.
Bakyasuwa maintained that following the spate of youth carrying weapons during political rallies, social gatherings of all kinds with weapons was banned in the state.
“Our men has repelled coordinated attacked by some alleged PDP thugs who wanted to set our office on fire, they were caught with guns and other weapons around our office”.
He further disclosed that about 35 political thugs alleged to be PDP supporters were arrested during a rally when the Governorship candidate of the (PDP) came back to Gusau on Monday.
The Anti-thuggery committee chairman lamented that one Yusuf Aminu was apprehended on Tuesday morning after he set ablaze a government vehicle in Gusau.
“The committee has also recovered motorcycle with PDP sticker, when the occupants abandoned it”.
The chairman assured that they will not leave any stone unturned “We would go after the sponsors of attacks in the state”.
He also warned that his committee will not condone any form of thuggery that could destabilise the peace in the state.
“Our committee will work tirelessly to ensure that thuggery, drug abuse and other related crimes are curtail in the state “.
