The Senator-Elect for Kano North senatorial zone, Senator Barau Jibrin has applauded the National Assembly New Media Forum, for their reportage of activities of the National Assembly.

The lawmaker spoke on Monday when the New Media Forum, a forum of online journalists in Abuja felicitated with him on his victory at the just concluded, presidential and National Assembly polls held on 25th February.

Speaking at the event, Jibrin expressed delight for emerging victorious despite the odds and highly competitive nature of the election.

He noted that the felicitation by the online media forum will propel him to work harder in the area of legislation for his constituency and the country.

He however thanked the people of Kano North senatorial zone for their confidence in him and the need to give him their support to come back to the senate.

“I feel delighted and highly honoured with the card you brought to me and this will propel me to do more in the area of law making in my senatorial zone and the entire country.

“I feel very elated with this victory card you presented to me, it is something that will propel me to do better, because to be recognised by a very strong body is something that will always push someone to do better”.

Commenting on his experience on the competitive nature of the Kano election, the lawmaker said “My experience about the just concluded National Assembly election is that, I feel very much happy because my people really recognized what I have been doing for them, despite the odds and highly competitive nature of the election, but they still returned me to the senate.

“Is something that I need to thank God for what he has done for me and also thank my people who have confidence in me and still see the need to give me their support to come back to the senate and continue to do the good work I have been doing for them.

“Am highly grateful to my people and my friends that saw me through the election” he said.

Meanwhile, there are strong indications that Senator Jibrin may throw his hat into the race for the office of President of the Senate in the 10th National Assembly.

Sources at the Nigerian Senate are of the view that Jibrin candidature is hinged on his cognate experience at the House of Representatives and the Senate.

According to the source, some senators are allegedly canvassing for the seat of the senate president to be zone to the northwest where he hail from and may have pencilled him for the job.

“Jibrin served as a member of the House of Representatives, where he chaired the committee on Appropriation, in fact he was elected in 1999 into the House of Representatives and have served so far two terms in the senate and looking forward to doing his third service in the senate” the source added.
