Naira Scarcity: ‘I hope 10th Senate ‘ll rise up to the occasion’ -Sen. Abba Moro

Senator-elect Abba Moro (Benue South, PDP) has bemoaned the agony Nigerians are being subjected to as a result of Naira Scarcity occasioned by redesigned notes.


The lawmaker however expressed optimism that the 10th Senate will rise up to the occasion and reposition the country.
Senator Moro, who represents Benue South warned that Nigeria may disintegrate if the naira scarcity continue in another one year.

The former minister of interior spoke on Wednesday in an interview with newsmen in Abuja.


“Right now as am talking to you is the old money that were deposited in the bank. I think Nigerians don’t deserve this agony without any definable direction and result, I think it is not fair. 

“My hope is that the 10th Senate will rise up to the occasion and reposition this country, because I cannot see how we will not disintegrate if we maintain this stand in another one year. God forbid, but I think the central bank and other agencies of government that are in charge of the system will rise up to the occasion.

“There is nothing personal about what is going on, it is about Nigeria” he said.


He said the task ahead of the 10th Senate is enormous, stressing “the task is not a small one and in the past we were talking about the none performance of the senate. Some people even called us lame duck senate. We are struggling to come out of that toga”. 

Senator Moro who described the 2023 election as a tsunami, observed that the polls swept aside many of his colleagues. “And of course it is no longer news that a lot of our colleagues were swept aside by what people have come to term the tsunami of political election in this country.

“By the grace of God, I survived. It is not yet uhuru, because up till this moment, as at yesterday I could only apply for fifty thousand naira to withdraw my own money in the bank.

“Though CBN had said banks should work Saturday, Sunday, so if you are not dispensing peoples money for them, then what are you working on Saturday and Sunday”? he asked.

Commenting on the composition of the in coming principal officers of the 10th National Assembly, he said “I don’t have to belong to a majority party to be concern about principal officers”.

“The next leadership of the National Assembly, especially the Senate, I do hope we are going to put our personal interest behind, I can assure you that the 10th senate would be solid and masses friendly” Senator Abba Moro added.
