Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu has congratulated the former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon on his 89th birthday.
In a statement on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mr. Levinus Nwabughiogu, Kalu praised God for giving Gen. Gowon the grace of longevity.
He recalled that the former Head of State made invaluable contributions to the socio-economic and political developments of the country in his time.
Kalu said that the establishment of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) by Gowon’s regime in the 70s, creation of states and the famous 3Rs of Reconciliation, Reconstruction and Rehabilitation project have continued to sustain the unity and peace of the country.
The Deputy Speaker joined family, friends and Nigerians in praying for longer life in good health for the octogenarian who is also the convener and National Chairman of ‘Nigeria Prays’, non-denominational prayer group established in 1996.
