The Special Adviser on Political Affairs to Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara state, Yahaya Abubakar Yari has dismissed report by a section of the media that an official of the state chapter of the Peoples Democracy Party (PDP) has been arrested for alleged gun running and banditry in the state.

The governor’s aide made this known while briefing newsmen in his office in Gusau.

He said the person being accused  is not a card carrying member of the PDP, adding “he is unknown to the party, since he is not a registered member”.

According to Yari, “no genuine party member will involve himself in such unholy act”.

He explained that the PDP in Zamfara was elected to fight banditry and other sundry crimes.

“How can a registered member be involved or engage in activities that are against the philosophy of the party”, he asked?

He added that security agencies are yet to inform the government of arrest of any PDP official in Zamfara state.

According to the special adviser, the alleged crime linked to the PDP member is reportedly the handiwork of the opposition parties in the state.

He however commended the security agencies in the state for collaborating with the government to rid the state of bad elements in the society.

He said the government of Governor Dauda Lawal is committed to fighting banditry as part of its rescue mission agenda, saying that it will not tolerate blackmail from the opposition parties.

He appealed to people of the state to support the state government  and the security agencies in their efforts to curtail banditry.
