Jigawa state government has concluded plans to send 194 medical students displaced by war in Sudan to Cyprus and India for continuation of their studies.
Governor Umar Namadi stated this on Monday while addressing the students and their parents at the Government House in Dutse.
He said it is an obligation on the state government to find Institutions across the globe to accommodate them to complete their studies.
“Jigawa state Government in collaboration with federal government worked tirelessly for the safe evacuation of the state sponsored medical students, and all of them were successfully brought back to Nigeria safely and in good condition.
“However since their return home, government has been working day and night to secure another admission for the students in a standard Universities to continue their studies.
“Today the state ministry of Higher Education has successfully secured admission for 184 students in Cyprus University and 10 in Indian University.
“All the necessary arrangements have been completed for them to go to those countries on the 5th February,” the Governor said.
Similarly, the state Commissioner for Higher Education, Science and Technology, Dr Isa Yusuf Chamo said ₦2.6 billion has been spent for the 194 students’ admission, transport, registration and other required logistics.
“Some of the students will spend two years, while some three years to complete their studies.
“I assure you that government will continue to take care of you according to the scholarship programme” he added.
