(SINL NIGERIA) In a bid to develop the steel industry and create job opportunities in Nigeria, the Senate has sought for the revival of the industry.
Specifically, the upper legislative chamber is seeking for stakeholders conference that will bring panacea on how to revive steel production.
Chairman Senate Committee on Steel Development, Senator Patrick Ndubueze made the disclosure on Monday in Abuja.
Ndubueze spoke during an oversight visit of the Senate committee on steel Development to the ministry of steel.
He called for a stakeholders conference to address the challenges confronting the Steel Industry in Nigeria.
According to Sen Ndubueze, the ministry of steel Development remains a vital Agency Government for Industrial Development.
He expressed optimism that the National Assembly will continue to play its constitutional role in ensuring that Steel Industry in Nigeria resume production.
He however urged the ministry of Steel to consider technological research and Steel Development, using Technology Institution in Nigeria.
Earlier, the minister of steel, Prince Shuaibu Abubakar Audu said the visit is an opportunity for the ministry to update the senators what the ministry has done so far to revive the Steel Industry in the country.
He called on the National Assembly to support the ministry in its quest to revive the Steel Industry in Nigeria and create jobs for teeming youth.
The minister also bemoaned legal challenge in the last privatisation, saying it has slowed down the Ajaokuta, Itakpe and other steel rolling mills in the country.
