(SINL NIGERIA) The Baba Azumi Foundation (BAF), based in Dutse, Jigawa State capital supported by ActionAid International has trained 18,874 Small holder Women and young Farmers (SHWF) on Agro ecological practices.
During the Town Hall meeting, the women beneficiaries showcased various agricultural products, with testimonies acknowledging the achievements they have made in agriculture.
The training, which was done in collaboration with the Strategic Partnership for Agroecology and Climate Justice (SPAC-WEST AFRICA), aimed at improving food and nutrition security while enhancing agro ecological skills.
The founder of BAF, Barrister Aisha Sulaiman Jahun, announced plans to train 100,000 women farmers across the state as targeted, seeking N500 million from donor agencies to support this initiative.
Barrister Jahun said the training has already benefited women from over 40 communities in 9 selected local government areas of the State.
According to her the Town hall meeting organized by BAF brought together policymakers, agricultural experts, and stakeholders to discuss land access and ownership among small holder women farmers and young farmers.
Also the chairman of Dutse local government, Dr. Sibu Abdullahi, assured commitments to support women farmers, promising to allocate more land and resources to empower them.
However, the SPAC project aligns with ActionAid International’s Transformative Impact Fund (TIF), aim to improve food and nutrition security as well as economic among women.
