Following the 10th September, 2024 flooding that ravaged Maiduguri and Jere Local Councils, beneficiaries of palliatives from the Nigerian Red Cross in partnership with Coca Cola have on Monday expressed gratitude to the organisations.
The 2,100 flooding victims who received food and non-food items, including the sum of ₦100,000 said the support will significantly aid their recovery efforts, enabling them to bounce back from the devastating floods.
This was made known during the distribution of palliatives to victims of the flooding at a ceremony held in Maiduguri, the Borno State Capital.
According to 30 -year -old Amina Ibrahim, a mother of two who lost most of her belongings in the floods, said the organisations support is coming at a a time when things were very difficult for her he her family.
“I’m super grateful to the Red Cross and Coca- Cola for coming to my aid – this food items will sustain my family for some time and I will utilise the money given to me to expand my fried yam and steamed beans pudding small scale business. ” Ibrahim said .
Other beneficiaries, including Ali Grema, a father of four, Yusuf Ali and Zainab Mohammed, who were all severely impacted by the floods, expressed gratitude, stating that the intervention will be a game-changer, transforming their lives for the better.
Mohammed Aminu , Corporate Affairs Manager, Nigerian Bottling Company- producers of Coca- Cola, said the company was deeply touched by the plight of victims and decided to intervene through the Red Cross.
“We feel that this support will greatly assist the beneficiaries,” Aminu said.
