(SINL NIGERIA) The movement for the creation of Hadejia state has said old Kano state (Kano and Jigawa) constitute seventy one (71) local government areas, saying the two states are qualified for more states to be created out of them.
Indeed, the movement argued that it is justified for Kano and Jigawa to ask for additional states.
Chairman, Movement for the creation of Hadejia state, Alhaji Musa Shu’aibu made this known on Tuesday while briefing newsmen shortly after submitting memorandum for the creation of Hadejia state to the senate Committee on National Constitutional Review in Abuja.
He posited that the case of old Kano state should be considered and hoped that the current request of three states of Hadejia, Ghari and Tiga could be granted.
According to the chairman “of course Hadejia State is highly endowed. And we feel up to now, our endowments have not been properly harnessed.
“And if we are granted the state, we are the people of Hadejia. We know our state more than anybody else. And we will do everything possible to harness our resources for the benefit of our people.
“And we believe we can even make a greater contribution to the Nigerian nation” he said.
The proposed Hadejia state is made up of eight local government areas of Auyo, Birniwa, Guri, Hadejia, Kafin Hausa, Kaugama, Kirikasamma and Malam Madori.
Shu’aibu explained that Hadejia state is now being requested by eight local governments, adding that “but we started with six local governments in 1994”.
He added “When Bayelsa also came in, requesting for a state, with six local governments. They had six, we had six that time. And Bayelsa was granted, but we were not granted.
“Today, Bayelsa has eight local governments and it is a state. And we are now asking for Hadejia State with eight local governments”.
Historically, he said Jigawa state is a product of military politics, stressing that “request for Hadejia and Jigawa states were made about the same time in 1991 to then military government of General Ibrahim Babangida. Our privilege information has it that the request for Hadejia was granted with headquarters at Hadejia, but at the end, it was Jigawa state that was officially announced”.
