In a significant move to ensure the safety and security of students and educational institutions in Jigawa State, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeyolo, Ibetecon, has launched the Safe School Initiative and Integration of Jigawa State Police Command Schools Protection Squad on Wednesday.
The IGP Adeyolo was represented in the occasion held in Dutse by the Assistant Inspector General, Ahmed Ammani in charged of zone four comprises Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states.
He said the initiative is aimed at protecting schools from potential threats and promote a culture of safety among students, teachers, staff, and communities.
“As part of the program, training will be provided for educators, administrators, and security personnel to recognize and respond to security threats.
“Additionally, modern technology and intelligence-led policing will be employed to ensure proactive law enforcement presence around schools,” he added.
The IGP further emphasized the importance of collaboration between educational authorities, community leaders, and law enforcement agencies to guarantee the safety of schools and, by extension, the future of the nation.
Also the Jigawa state Governor, Malam Umar Namadi has announced a significant investment in ensuring the safety and security of schools in the state.
However, as part of the state’s 12-point agenda, the Governor has initiated several interventions to strengthen security resilience and integration of communities.
Namadi said one notable initiative is the establishment of a Safe School Rapid Response Coordination Center (SSRRCC), where over N342 Million was spent for its renovation, furnishing, and equipment.
He said the center will serve as a central hub for monitoring potential emergencies and coordinating swift responses.
Namadi explained that the government has pursued public-private partnerships with private security agencies to engage over 9,000 young women and men in providing physical security in public institutions, including primary and secondary schools, health facilities, and courts.
“This initiative aims to enhance security in these institutions while addressing unemployment among the youth,” he stressed.
The Governor also highlighted the government’s commitment to providing a conducive teaching and learning environment through massive school renovations, improvement of structures, and provision of teaching facilities.
Adding that parameter fencing has been included for most boarding schools to ensure their security.
“These efforts demonstrate the government’s dedication to creating a safer and more secure learning environment for children in schools,” he concluded.
