(SINL NIGERIA) The Senator representing Niger South at the Senate, Senator Peter Jiya (PDP, Niger South) has applauded the Emir of Bida, Dr. Yahaya Abubakar for the relative peace in the senatorial district.
Niger South comprises eight local government areas: Agaie, Bida, Edati, Gbako, Katcha, Lapai, Lavun, and Mokwa.
He said the monarch has been up and doing as a retired military general, saying he is taking proactive actions involving the traditional rulers across his domain to be vigilant and assist them in whatever way he could.
Senator Jiya spoke on Wednesday while briefing newsmen in Abuja.
“Niger State has been relatively safe. Yes, we have pockets of insecurity here and there. But within my senatorial zone, I must commend Etsu Nupe, because he is up and doing as a retired military general, he is taking proactive actions involving the traditional rulers across his domain to be vigilant and assist them in whatever way he could.
“So banditry or whatever insecurity issues or challenges we have are minimized as far as the Niger-South senatorial district is concerned” he said.
The lawmaker noted that within the last two years at the upper legislative chamber, he has accomplished a lot of projects for his constituents.
He mentioned construction of dams, renovation of schools, “We have the construction of a mini ward for children at the federal medical center (FMC) in Bida”.
“We have the setting up of an IT center at the College of Agriculture in Mokwa. We have solar boreholes, drilled across the senatorial zone.
“We have solar lights in the entire zone, spread across all the local governments”.
Continuing, Senator Jiya said “as far as the 2025 budget is concerned, there are projects that include construction of roads; Lambatta- Agaie -Bida road.
He added that two dams have been proposed in the 2025 budget in Lapai and Edati local government areas, among others.
Commenting on the just concluded National Executive Committee meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the lawmaker particularly on the contentious issue of the party secretary, Senator Jiya said “The South East Caucus at their meeting came up with some resolutions, and the resolution was submitted to NEC, which was well-received.
“At the next NEC meeting, it will be on the agenda, possibly, to look at the merits and demerits of whatever the issues are and take appropriate action” he added.
