The Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) on Wednesday passed first reading in the Nigerian Senate.
It would be recalled that the bill, transmitted by President Muhamadu Buhari is titled: “Petroleum Industry Bill, 2020’’ is for the consideration of the upper legislative chamber.
Senate President Ahmad Lawan directed Acting Clerk of the Senate, Dauda Ibrahim El-Ladan, to ensure a copy of the Bill is given to each Senator in preparation for the second reading of the Bill next week.
Indeed, Lawan and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Monday had a stakeholders meeting with the minister of state for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Silva and the Group General Manager of NNPC, Mele Kyari over the bill in Abuja.
Meanwhile the Senate President and Speaker of the House said the lawmakers needed to understand the Bill to ease its passage, but however added that lawmakers would be thorough.
