The All progressive Congress (APC) Zamfara state chapter has concluded plan to file a suit in court against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Inspector General of Police (IGP) over Bakura constituency supplementary bye election.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, at the party’s secretariat in Gusau, chairman publicity committee of the APC, Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed Birnin Magaji said INEC failed to recognize the party as major stakeholder in Bakura constituency bye election, saying there was insecurity during the exercise.
“INEC didn’t take into cognizance, APC critical role as major stakeholder in the exercise and therefore went so low to finish the dirty job it’s started and that informed our decision not to participate in the supplimentary election.”
Birnin Magaji added that during the bye election held on 5th of December, votes of some wards were cancelled during the collation exercise by INEC.
According to him, the results of over 30 polling units and voting points in Rini, Birnin Tudu, Bakura and Yargeda wards were cancelled.
“However INEC unilaterally and single handedly upturned it’s earlier verdict and came out with what could be best described as random selection of 14 poling units where it conducted the said supplimentary election that produced the PDP candidate as ultimate winner of the exercise”
He further explained that APC pulled out of the supplimentary election for safety of lives and property of citizens.
He maintained that “It is pertinent to know that APC and INEC will meet in a court of law to sort out things on the Bakura bye election”.
