The Supreme court has affirmed the election of Ahmadu Fintiri as Governor of Adamawa State.

Justice John Okoro who read the lead judgement on Wednesday dismissed the appeal by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Aisha Dahiru.

While dismissing her appeal for lacking in merit, the five-member panel led by Justice John Okoro held that the act of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Hudu Ari, was an act of irresponsibility and criminality.

Justice Okoro further held that it is the returning officer who must announce results, as this is to avoid chaos and anarchy.

He stated that the Electoral Act gives the responsibility of who to declare results, and this power exclusively rests on the returning officer.

Meanwhile, Senator Aminu Iya Abbas representing Adamawa Central Senatorial District and Chairman Senate Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation, has congratulated Governor Fintiri on the Supreme Court verdict.

A statement by Ahmad Muhammad Danyaro, his Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs said Governor Fintiri won the 2023 Governorship election convincingly, saying that the judgment was an affirmation of Adamawa mandate freely given to the Governor during the election.

He said “this judgement did not come as a surprise because PDP won the governorship election convincingly and today the apex  court has spoken loud and clear. Our State now need all of us, to work together to deliver the the dividends of democracy for the benefit of all.

He therefore called on all gubernatorial candidates in the 2023 election to accept the Supreme Court judgment and join hands with Governor Ahmadu Fintiri to move Adamawa State to a greater height. “I also call on good people of Adamawa to continue to support the policies and programmes of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’ administration in order to build a greater Adamawa State”.
