Bandits struck in the early hours of Saturday and abducted the district head of Ruwan Rana in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Magaji Makau and five others.
One person however lost his life during the attack.
An indigene of the area, Mohammed Musa, told The PUNCH that, the bandits who rode motorcycles entered Ruwan Rana town in the early hours of Saturday.
Musa said the bandits, who arrived in the town around 3 a.m. began shooting sporadically and later went from house to house where they abducted the district head and five other prominent persons.
He also explained that they killed one person who resisted.
He said, “We heard gunshots around 3 a.m. and everybody went into hiding because we knew that the bandits were there for abduction.
“They went from house to house and abducted five people including our district head, shot down one person, and later returned to the forest.
“I was not aware of those abducted until in the morning when I came out to hear that, the district head, Alhaji Makau was among the victims.”
Meanwhile, the state police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yazid Abubakar, could not be reached as of the time of filling this report, the Punch reported.
