Abang S. O counsel to a petitioner at the Abuja independent investigative panel on Human Rights Violation by the defunct SARS is seeking 30 million naira as compensation for his client over alleged unlawful arrest and detention.
Abang counsel to Saadatu Sulieman also revealed before the panel how his petition to the Inspector General of Police on behalf of his client led to the removal of CSP Badewole Bola as DPO Zuba police station.
The counsel made this statement while cross examining CSP Badewole.
Abang further stated that the actions of the IPO in the matter were as a result of the DPOs influence.
While under cross examination CSP Bola narrated before the panel how it all started on the 29 of October 2020 while at Tungan Maje to secure palliatives, he received a call that some people brought themselves to the station with a complaint of investing the sum of 7 million naira in Famzhi.
He said that all efforts to get paid proved abortive, saying at the time, Saadatu was the manager of the company and the money was invested with her consent.
According to him he quickly went to the station, detained her and assigned an IPO to the matter, adding that he told the IPO she should be released on bail, but if nobody comes for her she should be charged to court.
However, he was transferred out of Zuba, Abuja on Monday the 2nd of November, 2020 as at then the area Commander Kubwa, Abuja had asked that the matter be withdrawn in court and transferred to him.
It would be recalled that the complainant earlier in her testimony before the panel narrated how she was unlawfully arrested in proxy by the Police while they were looking for the managing director of Famzhi Interbiz limited, Hajiya Mariam Sulieman Omayoza,
She testified before the panel that upon her arrest, she was detained for seven days between October 29 2020 to November 6 2020.
Narrating further the petitioner said four men came to her residence in Kubwa Abuja and asks her to follow them to the police station; according to her she was taken to Zuba, Abuja police station and was detained for 7 days.
She added that efforts to bail her out were allegedly rebuffed by the DPO Mr. Bola.
Continuing in her testimony, she said after Famzhi interbiz limited deposited two vehicles to facilitate her release, the DPO allegedly refused but rather kept raining insults at her.
Consequently, her counsel is seeking the sum of 30 million naira as compensation for his client’s alleged unlawful arrest and detention.
