APC Youths protest against alleged plans to impose Speaker in Jigawa state Assembly

The All Progressive Congress (APC) Northwest Youths Alliance for Good Governance took to the streets in Dutse, Jigawa State on Tuesday over alleged attempt to impose Honourable Idris Garba Kareka as the Speaker of the state Assembly.

The protesters who marched from the state Assembly to government house Dutse, carried  placards with the inscription, “New Governor New Speaker, we don’t want Kareka to emerge as speaker,  Kareka we don’t support your speakership again”.

The spokeperson of the group, Muhammad Na’Allah said they have come out in order to correct the erorr that is about to be committed by attempt to impose former Speaker to lead the house.

However this is coming at the time when the citizens of the state are expecting outcome of stakeholders’ meeting said to have held in  Kano on who would emerge as Speaker.

A source at the Kano meeting told our reporter that stakeholders reportedly resisted proposed attempt to impose former Speaker, Kareka to continue to pilot the affairs of the house for the next four years. 

SINL Nigeria Online learnt that the speakership has been zoned to the Southwest.

Those contesting the ofice include Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin from Miga State Constituency and Ishaq Tasi’u Soja from Dutse State Constituency.

Meanwhile, the embattled speaker could not be reached for comment as his phone was switched off. 

Speaking, the state chairman of APC, Aminu Sani Gumel confirmed the development, but did not give details.

“I heard that some people protested to Government House and House of Assembly”, he stressed.

While Clerk of the House, Musa Abubakar said he has not received any communication for the speakership election.

“We urge legislators to allow internal cohesion to prevail in their quest for new leadership”, he said.
