The National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Iyorchia Ayu, has commended the efforts of Nigerian authors, especially Northern Nigerian Writers’.
Ayu hinged the commendation on their foresight in organising a befitting summit of all indigenous writers across the 19 Northern states, to discuss how to use indigenous literature in addressing current security challenges in the country.
The writers, who converged on Katsina, also deliberated on the state of indigenous literature, management of writing skills in indigenous languages.
He described writing as an art and skill through which positive issues can be discussed and developed in order to offer ways out of any challenges affecting the society.
Speaking through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Yusuf Dingyadi, Dr Ayu said, PDP as a party has tremendous respect and recognition for literature and always adore talents for effective way of providing good governance, research and information dissemination.
Ayu said the party is making all the efforts for the take off of the Peoples Democratic Institute, PDI set up to offer research, analytical discussions, data storage and knowledge sharing for good governance and political cohesion among Nigerians.
Ayu has assured his support and cooperation to Northern writers’ towards building a formidable Indigenous Literature Society in Nigeria.
He said PDP will continue to work together with relevant professional writers and groups in upholding standard way of writing and literary activities to promote national cohesion, confidence, trust and unity among Nigerians.
Speaking earlier, National Chairman of the Northern Nigeria Writers, Dr Abu Sabe said members will continue to appreciate support of individuals, government and other stakeholders for development of literary activities in the North, declaring that the group will support policies and programme for the success of fight against insecurity challenges in the country.
Dr Sabe said, the writers are using their talents through indigenous languages to promote national unity and cohesion in the country.
He said over 150 participants from 19 northern states, including academicians and representatives from the neighbouring Niger Republic, are attending the two-day Summit in Katsina.
