Governor Bello Mohammed Mattawale of Zamfara State has said 58 persons were killed by fleeing armed bandits and not 200 as reported by the media.
The Governor spoke on Saturday evening, shortly after he paid condolence visit to Emirs of Bukkuyum and Anka over the incident of banditry activities in their respective emirate.
He maintained that 58 people were said to be killed by the fleeing armed bandits, contrary to report by both the local and International media.
During the visit, Emir of Anka, Alhaji Attahiru Ahmed and that of Bukkuyum, Alhaji Muhammad Usman confirmed that 36 were killed in Bukkuyum while 22 lost their lives in Anka emirate.
Recall, the attack which led to the killing of 58 persons on Thursday January 6, 2022, occured at kurfa Dunya in Bukkuyum local government and Waramu district in Anka local government.
The two Emirs made the confirmation in their separate speeches when the state Governor Alhaji Bello Matawalle paid them condolence visit.
The State Governor however assured to make all necessary arrangement to secure the affected communities.
He direct the State Committee on Damage Assessment to provide details of required items to repair the houses damaged by the bandits.
Meanwhile, it was earlier reported by both local and International media that over 200 persons were killed in Anka and Bukkuyum local government areas of Zamfara State by the fleeing bandits.
It was gathered that the bandits, who were fleeing as a result of ongoing military operations, were trying to leave the state with large number of animals, when they attacked some villages in the two local government areas, killing over 200 people in the process.
