Armed bandits in Zamfara state have reportedly sent notice to the families of four abducted people of Kolo village in Gusau local government area of Zamfara state, stressing they will not collect old naira notes as ransom.
An indigene of the area Mohammed Ibrahim said the bandits had earlier demanded N10m as ransom but after the negotiation, they agreed to collect N5m.
He added that as the people of the village were trying to source the amount through communal effort, the bandits sent a message on Wednesday that, they would not release the kidnapped victims with ransom of old naira note.
The bandits further disclosed that they would only release the victims if random is paid with the redesigned Naira notes.
“We were trying to mobilize the money demanded by the bandits when they sent another message this morning that they would not collect old Naira notes.
“They said that they would keep the abducted persons in their camp until next month, December when the new Naira notes would released”.
Meanwhile, efforts to contact to the spokesperson of the state police command SP Mohammed Shehu failed as he refused to pick up phone calls after several attempts as at the time of filing the report.
