Senator Smart Adeyemi representing Kogi West on Monday took swipe of the Buhari’s administration, saying the government economic team are not in tune with realities of the country.

According to Adeyemi, the Buhari economic team need to be evaluated to know whether they are competent to hold such position.

The lawmaker spoke on Monday shortly after the 2022 budget defence of Senate committee on solid minerals in Abuja.

He also urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the people behind the sale of Ajaokuta steel company.

Speaking on the 2022 budget, he saidthe country need to start looking at mode of preparing budget, adding that a good budget must not be just for expenditure.

He said “Budget must target wealth creation and for acceleration of social development. The kind of budgetary system that we have is not democratic, it is inherited from the military.

“I don’t see any economic team preparing a budget without looking at job, wealth creation in a nation where we have large number of unemployed youth and the economic team is not looking for how to improve foreign exchange rates.

“Democratic budget allows inputs from nooks and crannies of the country on national interest. For instance, if we are asked in Kogi state; what is our priority in 20222. It would be Ajaokuta steel company. It is not for our interest but for the nation at large.

“The economy team of presidents Buhari are not in tune with the realities of this country.

“How do justify a minister asking the Senate to approve 82billion for mosquito nets. This amount can make appreciable development in the iron and steel company.
