Jigawa state Governor, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar has said the Presidency is responsible for the shortages of chemical fertilizer currently being experience in Nigeria.
The Governor explained that the Presidential Committee on Fertilizer (PCOF), has allegedly been hijacked by Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari.
Specifically, Badaru alleged that Professor Gambari is the only person piloting affairs of the committtee at the moment.
Badaru, who is the chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fertilizer (PCOF), exonorated himself from lapses and failure, saying “I am no longer in control of the committee for the past two years”.
“When I was active in the committee, the successes achieved were unprecedented and every farmer in the country was a witness and can testify to that” he said.
Badaru made the disclosure while addressing Journalists in Dutse.
The governor was reacting to call by the Northwest Inputs Agro Dealers Association of Nigeria (NIADA), on President Mohammadu Buhari to dissolve the committee with immediate effect.
Governor Badaru stressed that, “only the Chief of Staff of the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari can give account or answer any question related to the committee’s activities in the last two years”.
Indeed, NIADA led by its Deputy chairman, Alhaji Haro Shehu, in collaboration with the Farmers Association in the state called on President Muhammad Buhari to dissolve the PCOF for it’s alleged failure to deliver enough Fetilizer to the Farmers across Nigeria.
“The committee has failed to delive its mandate of making the commodity available and affordable to the Farmers in the country”, the chairman concluded.
