Child morbidity, maternal mortality high in Jigawa -SCI

In a bid to save the lives of scores of  children under five in Jigawa state, there is an on going plan to have a befitting Pneumonia Strategic Control Centre in the state.


This was disclosed by the Chief of Party,  Inspiring project of Save the Children International and gsk, Dr Adamu Isah at a two day Budget Engagement with CSOs and the Media in Dutse.

The two day programme is aimed at monitoring and tracking the implementation of budget on health sector throughout the state, with a view to draw the attention of the policy makers to the lapses.

According to the Chief Party, “we want sustainability from the state government so that, the programme will continue even when the project close its activities in Nigeria.


“We want to convince the government to increase funding with a view to reduce the death of under five children by the rampant cases of the childhood Pneumonia”.


Similarly, the Programme Manager, Malam Abdullahi Magama explained that presently, SCI has installed oxygen Cylinders in eight General hospitals and six other Healthcare centres across the state.

He further observed that the rate of child morbidity and maternal mortality is currently on the high side in the state, stressing that urgent measures from the policy makers are needed to curb the menace.
