The call was contained in a Communique signed by the Observatory Group members of the CLEEN Foundation supported by MarkArthur Foundation.
SINL Nigeria reports that the Communique was issued on Thursday after a two day workshop held in Dutse, Jigawa State Capital.
It urged the State Govt to review the statutory body, “Administration of Criminal Justice Monitoring Committee (ACJMC)” provided by the legal framework in the state to ensure effective functioning of Parole mechanism for the benefit of eligible inmates in custody.
It explained that State Govt should support the Nigeria Correctional Service to ensure effective functioning of the Parole Board in Jigawa state.
It also called on the State Govt to provide the necessary resources for the Parole Board and ACJMC to function adequately.
It said there is need to establish a digital case management system for the Criminal Justice system in Jigawa state for ease of reference and tracking of cases in court and inmates in the custody of Correctional Services.
“Adequate collaboration with the Civil Society Organization and media should be ensured for effective awareness on Parole for all citizens in the state and Capacity Building for key actors in Criminal Justice system.
