Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Jigawa state chapter has re-elected Hauwa Ibrahim Ladan as new Chairperson to run the affairs of the Union for the next three years.
The election took place over the weekend at the state Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Jigawa state chapter, Dutse.
The emergence of Hauwa Ladan as Chairperson has laid to rest the controversy surrounding the state chapter of the Union.
Speaking during the inauguration of the new executives, the National Vice chairperson in charge of Northwest, Comrade Halima said the election was free and fair.
“The election I supervised today in Jigawa state followed due process and all the candidates have satisfied the criteria laid down by the NAWOJ constitution and that of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
“I am appealing to the new executives to carry along all union members, cooperate with the state government and NUJ in championing the interest of women and the general public”, Comrade Halima said.
Similarly, the state council chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists ( NUJ), Comrade Muhammad Garba Bulangu described the election as a product of sacrifice in upholding the principle of Justice, fairness and democratic tenets.
“So many things happened in the process of this election, but all is now history. There are so many lessons to learn, impunity has no place in our Union, democracy and justice will continue to prevail against all odds”, he said.
Other elected executives are Fadila Baffa Abdulkadir Vice Chairperson, Zainab Baba Aliyu Santali secretary, Nafisa Hassan Abdullahi Assistant Secretary, Halima Yusuf treasurer, Safiya Inuwa Musa Financial Secretary and Zainab Chiroma as Auditor respectively.
