Diphtheria kills 10 in Jigawa

The Jigawa state government has announced that 10 people died of Diphtheria disease, saying it has confirmed 91 cases across the state.

The outbreak of the disease was announced by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr Salisu Mua’azu on Friday while fielding questions from newsmen.

The Permanent Secretary said the outbreak of the disease has already affected the neighboring states of Kano, Bauchi and Yobe.

Dr. Ma’azu noted that the ministry had already collected necessary information and data in the affected areas and updated the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHDA) and National Disease Control Agency (NDCA) for further action.

He said government is gearing up to administer vaccines to the citizens when it arrive the state.

Recently the United Nations Children Education Funds (UNICEF) announced Kano state as having 80% diphtheria disease outbreak.
